The oldest practice for self-development is yoga. It dates back to over 5000 years. The Aryans brought with them the concept of yoga. Around 2nd century B.C., the Indian sage Patanjali wrote the Yoga Sutra. This treatise defines yoga as the control of activities of one's mind. Patanjali attempted to define and standardize classical yoga.

Yoga Sutra is composed of 195 aphorisms or sutras that expound Raja Yoga and its underlying principles. Patanjali Eightfold path of Yoga consists of Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi.

Yoga is founded on the belief of progress of self-awareness. Through yoga tips, an individual can gain information about physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. In the course of knowledge and yoga therapy, the awareness encourages the individual to adjust to the changes and the various aspects of his nature and become more aware of his own self. The methods of yoga include ethical disciplines, physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation.
