Reiki and yoga complement each other. Yoga facilitates the flow of Reiki energy in the body and mind. It helps trigger Reiki's benefits in life. And the practice of Reiki helps understand the finer nuances of yoga. Both these practices bring about a sense of inner calm and mental clarity.
Reiki is a Japanese method that is used all over the world primarily for healing and reducing stress. Reiki in Japanese means "universal life energy". The energy is believed to flow through all living beings and is the cause of the "life" seen in all. That universal energy can be channeled and focused to bring about the desired effect in us.
Reiki practitioners use their hands to do this channeling. They are not the healers; they are only a medium. They transmit Reiki energy into the client for the purpose desired. The process can also be a remote one, claim proponents. They can transmit energy over long distances to heal the client.
Since the practitioners of Reiki are considered channels and not the source, Reiki can be easily learnt from Reiki masters. About 12 hand positions are taught to the students to be administered in a session of an hour and a half. Practitioners are given an "attunement" by Reiki masters to unlock and tap the flow of Reiki energy. The energy is all around us, but it needs a master to teach the student how to draw it in abundance.
Yoga uses prana to accomplish the purpose of manifesting this universal energy, so both are essentially the same thing. Reiki complements yoga. Both bring awareness about the energy flowing through us. If some particular yoga postures cause pain in the body, Reiki can be administered on that area to alleviate pain. It removes energy blockages and eases the flow.
There are several benefits of Reiki:
* Stress release and relaxation. * Speeds up the body's natural healing ability. * Improves the quality of sleep. * Lessens high blood pressure. * Heals injuries and aches in the body. * Alleviates pain. * Smoothens blocked energy channels and brings about balance in the bodily functions. * Boosts immunity. * Gives mental peace and helps spiritual growth. * Helps in detoxification of the body. * Helps recover from drug addictions. * Delays the aging process.
Reiki does not have any scientific basis, though, but many believe in its healing powers. Some miraculous healings are said to have happened through Reiki. Reiki masters however do not guarantee any results before commencing treatment. Since they are only facilitators, it largely depends on the client how he or she receives the Reiki energy and responds to it.
