Yoga originated in ancient India. Some sources track its genesis to as much as 8,000 years ago. However, such claims have not been substantiated on account of the lack of any solid proof. The earliest evidence relating to its origin is in the form of steatite seals found among the ancient Mohenjodaro ruins that depict yoga postures.
