The Kripalu Yoga Centre
The Kripalu yoga center is a place for yoga, meditation, relaxation and recreation. Its primary objective has been to reinforce vitality and spirituality  through the means of yoga therapy and physical exercise. It also seeks to provide a convenient atmosphere for the discussion and appreciation of different kinds of philosophy and approaches that have helped in the advancement of the human civilization. It believes not only in the identity of the individual human being but also in the harmonious relationship of the individual with  society and the international community.

The history of the Kripalu Yoga Center dates back to 1966, when master yogi and Guru Amrit Desai had started the Yoga Society at Pennsylvania. It was a non-governmental organization and used to impart lessons in yoga postures and breathing exercises to prospective yoga teachers. The society was later renamed the Kripalu Yoga Fellowship program under the auspices of Amrit Desai's guru and teacher, Swami Kripalvananda, popularly called Bapuji or beloved grandfather.

This yoga guru was a renowned exponent of Kundalni Yoga and was renowned for his public speeches, writings, and ideas. In the four years that he spent in America, Bapuji developed techniques of yoga and meditation. Today, these techniques serve the basics and roots of the society's approach to the yogic and Vedic form of life.

In the year of 1972, the Kripalu yoga center or Ashram was established in Sumneytown, Pennsylvania.  It has expanded and improved since then. The Ashram is autonomous and consists of disciplined and devout residents who lead a simple communal life and have dedicated themselves to the service of the ashram. In this ashram, people learn Yoga and various other mudras.
