To master the technique of yoga is an art and the teacher of yoga has to be the master of the trade. In ancient India, many masters were well versed in the techniques of yoga and they taught these techniques to their disciples in secrecy. However, with the passage of time and especially during the dark ages, most of the techniques of yoga were lost.

There are some gurus that know these techniques and are well versed with them. They have fame and popularity that is far and wide. These masters are the role models who are well versed with the secrets of teaching yoga. These people are guides who teach people who are really interested in benefitting from yoga.

A technique of yoga called Kriya yoga is a secret technique that is practiced by many great masters of India. There are many secrets involved with this type of yoga that involving control of the breath movements. A good teacher of yoga should be able to apply yogic knowledge to help the pupil overcome deep rooted problems of a physical or a psychological nature. The teacher should be able to make the student serene and calm with yoga.
 
One of the qualities of a good teacher of yoga is that the teacher should be able to able to respect the pupil and deserve respect. A good yoga teacher should be able to completely set aside any ego problems.  The teacher should be able to interact with pupils in a humble and sympathetic manner.

The yoga teacher should never take any undue advantage. The teacher should be a true and selfless instructor well versed in the domain of yoga.

The perfect yoga teacher should have the capability to make the students self-motivated. The perfect yoga teacher should be highly punctual in holding classes and should be full of energy levels. The yoga teacher should have integrity in thought and action. In other words, the yoga teacher should be the ideal role model for the pupils.
