Myanmar is believed to be one of the principle seats of the Buddhist way of life. Buddhism is prevalent in a very extensive manner in the socio-religious life of Myanmar. Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, is the capital of Myanmar. It is a major center of Buddhist activity and is littered with Buddhist temples and sites of worship.
The Buddha was himself a yogi and it was only through yoga that he attained the state of enlightenment called Moksha. Yogic practice prepared the young Buddha for the grueling path to salvation
Myanmar is dotted with meditation centers that still follow the components of the traditional system of meditation, which are the Samadhi, the Asana, and the Pranayama. Of these, the Sayagyi U BA Khin Meditation Center in Myanmar is globally renowned for its ancient meditative techniques and yoga therapy. It was founded by Sayagyi U BA Khin. The founder’s closest disciple, Mother Sayamagyi, supervises it. The centre follows the Theravada Buddhist tradition and there are six centers of this foundation in Myanmar.
The center has been in the field of contemporary meditation and yoga therapy for almost 50 years. At the International Meditative Centre in the UK, interested students may enroll for a ten-day long residential meditation program. Mother Sayamagyi or a teacher from the center of Myanmar conducts these classes. These classes attract a host and variety of students from different backgrounds, different cultures, races, and nations.
