Know How Yoga Can Help In Curing Back Pain
Yoga has been projected as a cure for a number of ailments. It has been claimed that it can help suppress back pains too. While there are no medical theories to prove this fact, practitioners of yoga have claimed substantial relief from back pain. However, sufferers of back pain are advised to consult their doctor before intending to repeat the success story of others.

It is best to consult your doctor before you take up yoga namely because yoga is an intense form of exercise. There is a lot of stretching and straining of body muscles involved. Hence, you should know about all those movements that are to be avoided. In all such matters, your doctor can give you the best advice.

Though your doctor can inform you of your limitations in movement, he/she can not help you with the actual practice of yoga. For that, you will need the help of a yoga teacher as doing yoga all by yourself may harm you. Further, it is important that you discuss all your problems with your yoga teacher. He/she will then help you by modifying the yoga poses accordingly.

As mentioned earlier, yoga is a form of exercise that focuses upon all the key muscle groups in the body. While working to strengthen these muscle groups, yoga also helps to make them flexible. These two features of yoga can immensely benefit patients of back pain. By focusing upon their lower back, they can strengthen their muscles around the spine and get some relief from back pain.

There are a number of yoga poses that patients of back-pain can choose from. While some of these poses are gentle on the body, others like Ashtanga, Bikram and Kundalini poses can be a lot more intense on the body. Patients of back pain can choose from amongst them according to their level of physical comfort.

Further, many of these postures can be modified with the use of props. Props will help minimize the damaging effect of many poses on the lower back.  However, patients should generally avoid all those pose which can bring them any type of discomfort. Even with the easiest of the poses (like the hatha yoga ones), they should be very easy-going and gentle.

Yoga can be of great help in relieving back pain. It can help by not only strengthening the muscles around the lower spine region but also by helping us breathe properly. By inculcating a sense of sitting in right postures, it can help minimize the tension between muscles and bones. This would go a long way in reducing the amount of pain that patients suffer from.
