How Yoga Helps Relieve Stress– Some Facts |
Yoga is not merely a type of physical exercise that stretches and strengthens various core muscles in our body. It is also a way of leading life which, if inculcated properly, can help us reduce the immense amount of stress that comes our way in today’s fast-paced life.
What makes yoga exercises an excellent stress buster is the active ingredient of meditation. As a matter of fact, meditation forms an essential part of all yoga poses and without learning the art of meditation, no yoga poses can be done properly. So if you want to relieve yourself of stress of a hectic life, you first need to learn the art of meditation.
Stress sends the various systems inside our body into an overdrive. They work at a rapid pace and quickly exhaust themselves. As a result, that much needed coordination between them ceases to exist and eventually we fall sick. Yoga avoids the occurrence of such a possibility by regulating the way in which our various body organs work.
Yoga is always done as a sequential set of exercise poses that make the muscles flexible and strengthen then. The manner in which yoga works is by isolating and strengthening the core muscle groups. However, this cannot be achieved if the poses are not retained for some amount of time. This cannot happen if the mind is not relaxed as well as strong.
In order to retain the poses for a long period of time, a control over breathing is also required. Without controlled breathing no one would be able to hold the poses for a long time. They will run out of breath and would easily give up.
Practice of correct breathing can be easily learned through Pranayama. The same pose will also help one to learn how to meditate, and how to keep the control of mind on one’s breathing pattern.
Needless to say, the same pose can help one to extend the mind’s control over other things. And by musically chanting the name of God, the practitioner can control the chain of thought in the mind as well. Stress is nothing but a preoccupation with too many ideas at the same time. With the help of Pranayama, one would be able to minimize the number of thoughts in one’s mind and get rid of the resultant stress.
Though it has not been proved theoretically, practitioners of yoga have reported a definite decline in their levels of stress and the accompanying health problems. They claim that yoga has allowed them to take the control of their life into their own hands. Hence, if you have not yet started with yoga, it is best that you find an instructor and begin right away. |
