Relationship between Celibacy and Yoga Meditation
Yoga literally stands for a dichotomy i.e. dichotomy between the Atman and the Brahmand or the soul and the universe. The goal of every Atman (soul) is to attain Moksha or salvation in joining the soul with the Brahmand or with the entirety. Moksha is to be achieved through the process of Yoga learning and practice, and meditation.

Meditation which means Yoga in Hindi was derived from the root word Yog. Yog in Sanskrit stands for the synthesis between two individuals. Yoga in simple terms means union. The process of our soul or atman trying to synthesize with Brahmand, the almighty creator is known as meditation yoga.

One cannot learn yoga by sitting in a dull room and trying to focus on a dimly lit bulb. By sitting in the Pranayama position and by practicing the right breathing exercises, one may seek and discover spirituality. The right yoga postures and yoga poses help us establish control over our senses and direct our energies towards the goal of attaining Moksha.

Celibacy and yoga meditation go side by side. The yogi is however, essentially a Brahmacharya, i.e. the yogi has renounced all desires and acts of carnal pleasure. He redirects his carnal stimulus and converts them to exercising the cosmic energy derived out it to the task of meditation and commuting to his spirituality. A minimum period of sexual abstinence for 12 years is required to attain celibacy, and this is no easy a task. Sexuality is the final touch to attain enlightenment. It also entails the practice of mental celibacy.
