An Overview of Piriformis Yoga
Piriformis Yoga is a form of yoga that is used to treat the condition known as Piriformis Syndrome. In fact, Piriformis in the human body is one of the external muscles that assist in the rotation of the femur or the thighbone.

In the Piriformis Syndrome, you feel pain, tingling and a numb sensation in your buttock region. You can feel ache in the mid, but area that radiates through the whole of back legs. The pain becomes unbearable with prolonged sitting, walking up stairs or running. So, how can Yoga therapy and Yoga postures help cure Piriformis Syndrome?

Under the Piriformis Yoga, different Yoga poses and asanas, such as Gomukhasana (Cow Face Pose), Raja Kapotasana (King Pigeon Pose) and Eka Pada Kapotasana (Pigeon pose) help you stretch the Piriformis muscle. These poses require the external rotation of the femur. In the Eka Pada Kapotasana or the Pigeon pose, you can practice other yoga poses also. With the help of this pose, you can stretch the Piriformis muscle.

The best way to do this posture is by lying on your back, bending the left knee and crossing the right ankle on the right knee. You can feel an opening sensation in the hip, through this pose. Thus, Piriformis Yoga poses can be effectively used to treat the Piriformis Syndrome.

Starting any yoga posture requires you to undergo deep breathing exercises and stretching. This helps your body to warm up and prepare for difficult postures. Yoga is a way to attain spirituality through meditation. Through yoga training, one can achieve union between the individual self and the universal self.
