Yog is the ancient system of exercise and spirituality, pertaining to the Hindu system of philosophy and way of life. However, like other physical exercises, yoga training is also a step-by-step process and a prior warm-up is a must. More so, all the yoga postures and yoga poses shouldn't be tried in one go. Learning yoga positions for beginners is a gradual and slow process and beginners before starting yoga, can go through the following stretching exercises and yoga tips:
The cat-cow stretch:
* Get down on all fours, aligning the wrists perpendicularly to the shoulders and knees right under the hips. * Straighten the spine so that your head and your hind tailbone are in complete alignment. * The neck is to be the natural extension of the spine.
* For the cow pose, take in a deep breath and join the toes together, loosen the belly, gaze upwards; let your movement start from the tailbone, the neck therefore becomes the last to move. * For the cat pose, release your breath, and let your feet fall to the floor, round up the spine, drop the head and look into your own belly-button. * This movement is to be done a couple of times, while inhaling and exhaling your breath. This should be done at least 5-10 times.
The Bhujangasana or the Snake stretch:
* Stick the tops of your feet to the flat part of the floor and gently press them down. * Move your chest towards the front and slide your shoulders behind, lifting your chest higher just like the hood of the snake.
