How To Do Vajrasana And What Are Its Benefits?
Vajra means diamond and it also means strong. Vajrasana or the Diamond Pose is the launching pad for many asanas. This is an easy pose to perform and it is the foundation for other difficult asanas.

Vajrasana is also the resting pose for many other difficult asanas. Some of the meditation poses are difficult and the spiritual practitioners find it problematic to sit in those positions for a long period. For such poeple, Vajrasana is thoroughly recommended as this pose provides a firm base to the body. It works just like the foundation of any building.

Steps to Vajrasana
* Sit erect on the mat.
* Stretch out the legs to full extent and keep them close together.
* Keep the palms of both hands on the right side.
* Put the entire weight of the body on them.
* Fold the knees back.
* Sit on them, in an easy position.
* Rest the palms on the respective knees.
* Sit erect.
* Breathe normally.

This asana is beneficial if performed before meditation and Pranayama. Sitting for 15 minutes in this pose before and after your yogic exercise can be greatly beneficial.

Benefits of practicing Diamond Pose
In the initial stages, you may find it difficult to sit in this pose. As you become accustomed to sit in this asana, you find that it relaxes your knee cap, ankles and feet. Those having gas problems should perform this asana, immediately after a meal.

Sit in Vajrasana position for about 5 minutes. It provides relief from sciatic pain. Don't overeat, but if you do, sit in Vajrasana, for ten minutes. It relieves heaviness of the stomach. The neck and the backbone are straightened in this asana. In this asana, you find that the body is totally relaxed. All parts of the body reach a resting position in this asana. Therefore, this is the ideal resting pose, after you have done many a difficult asanas or long breathing exercises. The benefit of Vajrasana done for 5-7 minutes is equivalent to a long walking exercise. Also, the diamond pose is very beneficial in curing the problem of varicose veins.

Be cautious!
You must perform Vajrasana as per the correct technique. Do not sit on the ankles. Children, men and women of all ages can practice this asana and avail its many benefits. Persons having stiff joints should do this asana carefully. Perform this asana very slowly and cautiously. Perform it with gradual practice.
