Perfect Pose Also known as Sidhasana
About the pose
By essence, the Siddhasana is a meditation pose. The literal meaning of Siddhasana is 'perfect pose'. This seating pose helps an individual to use the hidden powers with in for spiritual upliftment. Siddhasana is used as the practice seat for many yoga asanas and mudras.
How to do the Siddhasana?
1. Sit down on the legs and stretch both your legs out. 2. Bend your left knee and place the sole of left foot under the right thigh. As you place your left foot under the right thigh, the heel should touch the perineum. 3. Bend the right knee and place the right heel against the public bone. 4. Place your hands in the gyan mudra. The thumb and forefinger of each hand should be slightly touching each other and the other three fingers should be extended outwards. 5. Remain in this mudra and recite whatever mantra you choose to recite. 6. In order to maintain equilibrium, the position of both the legs should be interchanged on alternate sittings. 7. To exit this asana, slide the right leg first off the left foot. Straighten the right leg. Repeat the same with the left leg.

* The Siddhasana stimulates the brain and helps in soothing the nervous system. * It directs the energy from the lower psychic centers upward through the spine. * This asana acts as a stabilizing force to the sexual energy of an individual. * It redirects the circulation of blood towards the lower spine and abdomen. This helps in toning the pelvis and the abdominal organs along with the lumbar region of the spine. * The Siddhasana also helps in balancing blood pressure and the reproductive system.
Caution to be exercised with the Siddhasana
* People suffering from sciatica should refrain from practicing this asana. * Men should exercise a little more care while performing this asana. They should take note that they lift the genitals high enough so that the base of the penis is not compressed. A soft sitting support can be used for this purpose.
A tip for beginners
Though Siddhasana is a very simple pose, beginners might just face some difficulty in practicing it. Beginners can start off by bringing the left heel on the right ankle-bone. While at the same time the top of the left foot can rest on the ground in front of the right foot. If this still feels uncomfortable then, you could opt for a soft sitting by placing a pillow or blanket underneath.
The Siddhasana is meant more for your mind than your body. This yoga asana soothes your inner self and enables you to experience ultimate relaxation while connecting with the divine being.
