A Step By Step Guide To Meditation

If you wish to be at peace with yourself, then nothing can help you better than meditation. Meditation puts you in touch with your inner self and helps achieve peace and tranquility. However, getting accustomed to the practice is not easy. Here is a step by step guide that will help you with the same.

Step 1
Before you start with your meditation, you need to be clear of your intention. You need to sacrifice something to make time for meditation. Ask yourself what you are willing to give up for meditating. It is important that you be realistic with your expectations.

Step 2
Next, you need to create an environment that is apt for meditation. You may not light up scented candles or burn incense sticks to create a suitable environment. All that is required of you is to create a special place that is meant only for meditation. You may dedicate a special corner of your room for this purpose or have a chair or a mat that you use only for meditation.

Step 3
Though there is no fixed time for meditation, it is important that you have a set time. Allocate a particular hour of the day for meditation. You can figure out for yourself when you will be in the quiet and dedicate that time for meditation.

Step 4
The next step is to get rid of all the distractions. Switch off your phone, turn off the TV and if you can put the doorbell to rest too. You will be able to meditate properly only when these distractions have been turned away.

Step 5
Be consistent. Initially when you take up meditation, you may not like it. Or you may have problems getting accustomed to the habit. But, consistency will help you overcome all these hurdles. No matter how many problems you face, keep on meditating for at least three weeks. After three weeks, your mind and body will get accustomed to the practice. Once you are hooked, meditating will come more easily and naturally to you.

Step 6
After every meditation session, jot down what you felt while you were meditating. You could keep a track of the feelings that you experience, bodily sensations, any images that you may see while meditating. Keep a track of this in a meditation journal so when you look at the journal, you have a better idea of the progress you have made.

Step 7
Meditation exists in more than one form. Some of the most common types of meditation include guided visualizations, no music, mantras, breath synchronization, mantras and the like. Once you get accustomed to the habit of meditation, you can start experimenting. You never know which meditation may work well for you.
