Meditation in simple words means 'awareness'. It is the phenomenon to come closer to your own existence and feel the oneness of the universe. Many people find it difficult to get into the habit of meditation. It requires a great amount of focus and will power to get a hold on your thoughts to become more aware of them. Here are a few steps you could follow to inculcate this beautiful practice as your habit. Read through and explore the reality of your being.
The first that you need to do is to create the right atmosphere. You must select a comparatively quieter place where you would be unlikely to get disturbed. If you are too much of a phone person you must put aside or switch it off to avoid disturbance. If possible, put on some soothing music and light a few candles to create that perfect aura.
Moving on to the second step; find a comfortable meditating posture for yourself. It is not necessary to stick to the conventional postures. It's all about discovering your self. You could consider sitting on a comfortable cushion or a chair, whatever you like. You could experiment to find out. Lying down is not recommended as many tend to fall asleep in this posture. But, if it suits you, go ahead!
The third thing that you need to know about meditation is that it requires your consent to come into existence. You need to be willing enough to undertake it as your habit. Without the intention, it will get difficult to move ahead. It is advisable that you make a statement to yourself that you would meditate to change your being and hence your whole life. It would be beneficial to say it out aloud. Your brain would register it better. You may decide the time too as there is no definite time to meditate. To maintain consistency, you need to set a definite time and follow it religiously.
In the fourth step, you start your activity. You must relax and breathe. You must be aware of your breathing process- the inhalation and the exhalation. Just relax your body slowly, become aware of each of your body parts. Start from the toes and gradually move up. Your mind would wander with random thoughts. There would be a point where you would become aware of your wandering mind. This is the turning point you were seeking for. This awareness would come sooner or later in all. Do not worry.
Every time you sit to meditate you sit as a beginner, do not make comparisons with your last experience or someone else's experience. This habit would take some time to set in but don't lose patience. If you are in a quest to become aware in its true sense, hang in there!
