How to Begin Your Quest for Health?
Yoga is a set of physical practices consisting of stretching, breathing and relaxation techniques. Based on an applied science of the mind and body, yoga brings about a natural state of physical and mental health. Begin your journey by acquainting yourself with the basics of yoga.

Step 1: Choose a yoga style and find a class.

There are several styles of yoga to choose from. Read a bit about them to pick one that suits you best. Power yoga is catching on fast but it may be too strenuous for many. Hatha or vinyasa is recommended for beginners. You need to get the basics of yoga right. Once you do that you can easily try the other styles.

You'll have to find a class in your area that offers the style you are looking for. Look for yoga studios or gyms that conduct yoga classes. Local newspapers or online resources may help.

Step 2: Get basic yoga equipment.

All you need for yoga is your clothes and a mat. Buy a yoga pant or any exercise pant that is snug-fit but not tight. The same goes for your shirt. Clothes should be soft and breathable. Don't wear clothes that hamper your movements or distract attention.

A mat is essential for doing yoga as it defines your personal space and offers a bit of cushioning.

You'll need some props if you want to do a style called Iyengar yoga but they'll be made available to you in the class.

Step 3: Be prepared and know what to expect at the class

Just place your mat on the floor like others in the class and wait for the teacher's instructions. Remind him or her before the class that you are here for the first time. Students sit cross-legged on their mats and the teacher usually begins the class with a chanting of 'om'. Then you are taken through a series of postures with someone at the front leading by example. You shall be taught each of them separately, but if you forget just look at the lead and follow.

You will get a hang of the asanas (postures) very soon and you can start experiencing their magnificence once you get your breath to synchronize with them.

Step 4: It may be hard task for some. So learn to get over the first two weeks.

Some people may feel worse in the first two weeks of yoga, as it involves shaking up of the toxins inside and eliminating them. The more toxins you have, the more will you feel dizzy or achy. You could feel stiffness, drowsiness, or slight bloating of the body.

Once you get over the first two weeks you will feel much brighter and much more spirited. And then there is no limit as yoga can even lead to spiritual enhancement.

Step 5: Follow dos and don'ts.

These are simple. Simply concentrate on poses and make full use of exercises at a yoga class. Do not think of stressors of ife and just relax to enhance your yoga experience.
