Yoga mats are an essential bit of equipment that helps you to concentrate and perform yogic exercises in a better way. Yoga mats not only help in the exercising of various yoga poses and yoga postures, but also help in meditation, and keeping stability and balance in the mind and the body. Asanas and mudras can be performed with tremendous ease. The yoga mat gives you a better grip and its cushioning effect protects you. Besides, it also gives you the added advantage of privacy when you are undergoing yoga training.
It is important that you regularly clean your yoga mat. Yog is the combination of spirituality and mental and physical health and hygiene. Shaucha or cleanliness is a very important prerequisite of a yogi.
How to clean yoga mats?
For lighter stains, take a ratio of three parts of any daily use soap, and a part of water and mix them in an aerosol. Spray the stained areas, and then dry it with a towel or a soft piece of cloth. You may also use a mixture of one part of vinegar and three parts of water. However, use soaps and detergents with caution. Don't use them if you don't require them. Soap is hard to scrub or wipe off completely. After you've washed off the soap completely, make sure you spray and dry-wipe it again with the mixture of water and vinegar. Preservation of the texture of the mat is very important.
For tougher stains, mix a drop of light soap with three parts of cool water and scrub it off lightly and hang it up for drying. If the stain persists, repeat the procedure.
